Potential risks of Belviq
Just as any other serotonergic drug, Belviq may cause serotonin syndrome. The symptoms of serotonin syndrome are:
- Autonomic dysfunction (high heart rate, fluctuating blood pressure, high temperature)
- Gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation)
- Psychiatric side effects (agitation, confusion, hallucinations, tremor, incoordination, hyperreflexia and hypomania)
If any symptoms of serotonin syndrome occur, a patient should stop taking Belviq and consult a doctor.
To relieve the symptoms of serotonin syndrome, the doctor can prescribe Diazepam or other antipsychotic drug of benzodiazepines group.
